The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Mt 7:13 For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter.
Isa 45:5-7 I am Yahweh, and there is none else; besides me there is no God. I will gird you, though you have not known me; that they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none besides me: I am Yahweh, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil. I am Yahweh, who does all these things.
This harsh reality is difficult to reconcile with the modern concept of God as an all-loving, all accepting nonjudgmental best friend. Nothing exists apart from that which Yahweh has called into being. The tree of knowledge of good and evil was present in the Garden from the beginning and God strictly warned mankind to stay away from it and choose obedience over rebellion. Since the fall, evil has become a necessary part of our current condition. Those seeking wisdom should ask, “Will it always be so?”
We currently inhabit a three-dimensional reality of designed opposites. Pick any pair of your choosing, up is necessary to discuss down, sweet is meaningless without sour, dark is the absence of light, and good defines evil. Despite the spiritual darkness descending on mankind, we still have access to light. This is crucial to an accurate understanding of Hell. No longer the topic of fire and brimstone sermons from the pulpit, it has been mocked as myth and dismissed by modern culture as obsolete.
Satan is a created being. He is not the evil opposite of God. He does not rule from a throne in hell; in fact, he has never been there. Hell was originally prepared for he and his angels as a place of eternal torment. It is the default destination for evil and rebellious beings. It was not meant for mankind, as Yahweh wills that none should perish, but find eternal life in his son, Messiah Yeshua.
Mt 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for the devil and his angels!”
Rev 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are too, and they will be tormented there day and night forever and ever.
Man is an eternal spiritual being with the gift of free will, the ability to choose between options. Some choices are merely preference, such as a blue Mustang versus a red Camaro. However, other decisions have eternal implications: to reject salvation, live an unrighteous life, and choose darkness over light. Evil exists so that people will inevitably be confronted by its horrible reality and turn away. However, there are many who embrace it because they are consumed by hate and fear.
Jn 3:19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
The popular misconception is that Yahweh “sends” people to Hell. Funny that you never hear the same groups complain about him “sending” them to Heaven. What really awaits evil beings defiant to the end in their rejection of salvation?
Jn 3:16 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. The one who rejects the Son will not see life, but God’s wrath remains on him.
Hb 9:27 And it is appointed for man to die once, and then to face judgment.
Mt 25:46 And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.
Rev 20:15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire. 21:8 But as for the cowards, unbelievers, detestable persons, murderers, the sexually immoral, and those who practice magic spells, idol worshipers, and all those who lie, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. That is the second death.
Dan 12:2 Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake – some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.
Mt 13:41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everything that causes sin as well as all lawbreakers. 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mk 9:48 Where their worm never dies and the fire is never quenched.
Worms, wrath, unquenchable burning fire, punishment, shame, abhorrence, weeping, and gnashing of teeth (regret) all sound terrible enough, but after much prayer and contemplation, I will share with you the incomprehensible reality of an eternal Hell that I believe the Lord has revealed.
Hope, peace, light, mercy, kindness, love, truth, joy, fun, forgiveness, beauty, faith, happiness, contentment, satisfaction, pleasure, sacrifice, morality, righteousness, generosity, freshness, cleanliness, coolness, clarity, fragrant aromas, soul moving music, inspiration, relief, calmness, safety, security, teamwork, nobility, integrity, honor, loyalty, cuteness, inspiration, holiness, harmony, purity, quiet, tranquility, soothing sounds, privacy, seclusion, serenity, relaxation, gentleness, cheerfulness…NONE OF THIS WILL EXIST IN HELL.
It will be the only place in the created universe set apart by God himself, which will be entirely devoid of his presence. It will be a place without opposites. No hint of any of the above concepts will exist, as they are all part of God’s nature. He will finally grant the wicked and rebellious their strongest desire, to be free of any and all restraint. And he will place them together with every other evil being that has ever existed for all eternity.
There will only be: despair, turmoil, darkness, cruelty, hate, anger, frustration, vendettas, ugliness, contempt, sadness, bitterness, hunger, pain, greed, evil, selfishness, spoiled goods, filth, heat, dryness, smoke, dimness, screeching, wailing, loathing, chaos, betrayal, savagery, vileness, delusion, deceit, clamor, noise, shame, weeping, foulness, envy, pride, jealousy, arrogance, putridness, rottenness, gluttony, thievery, sadism, ferocity, enemies, terror, and every other despicable concept imaginable. Every demon, fallen angel, and unredeemed human will grow worse and worse together forever, and will never stop vying for any advantage at each others expense.
There will be no comfort, no peace, no safety, no security, no friends, no allies, and no respite. You will steal or take by force what you want only to have it stolen from you. You will dominate those below you only to be brutalized by those stronger. You will experience no joy in a temporary victory because fear and paranoia will cripple you. You will hate every living thing around you and be helpless to do anything about it. You will be mocked, shamed, beaten, tormented, and abused as you do the same to others. The striving, struggling, and contempt will never end. The horror is unimaginable.
This should literally frighten the “living “hell” out of you. No one is talking about this. I am clearly advising you to find salvation in the blood of Messiah Yeshua while you still have the ability to choose between eternal realities. Evil exists in our world to push us to the light.
I want to finish on a positive note. I placed this at the end or the TL/DR no attention span crowd would have skipped the entire article. Amazingly, the new Heavens and new Earth will also be a place without opposites as the God of glory and light dwells forever with his people.
A New Heaven and a New Earth
Rev 21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits thick. 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.
22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
